CoolangattaStateSchool was established in 1919 on Kirra Hill and later redeveloped at its present site in 1975. The school is situated within walking distance of the Queensland / NSW border and within a block to the magnificent KirraBeach. The school grounds are bounded by Coolangatta Rd, Appel St, Stapylton St and Miles St and have spacious shaded grounds, covered play areas and a double tennis court for students to enjoy.
Classes, as far as possible, are structured around the junctures of learning for Queensland Schools. This typically enables teachers to work flexibly and cooperatively in multi-age teaching teams.
The school’s curriculum focuses on Literacy & Numeracy with a major focus on English and Mathematics and an integrated approach to teaching Science, Studies of Society and Environment, The Arts, Technology and Health and Physical Education. ICTs are embedded within and across the curriculum.
Swimming is offered to all classes Prep – Year 5 at nearby pool facilities. Year 6 and 7 participate in a Surf Education program run in conjunction with Surf Life Saving, Queensland. Daily 30 minutes of Physical Activity is programmed for each class as well as a weekly specialist PE lesson with a specialist teacher. A variety of opportunities exist to extend students academically, in the arts, in sport and in service to the community.
